Expansion of Changi Airport
Changi Airport will be expanded to include an iconic mixed-use complex codenamed “Project Jewel”, two new terminals and a fourth runway.
Project Jewel and Terminal 4 will be ready by 2017. 70 percent of the $1.47 Billion Project Jewel will be retail space, and a hotel will also be developed (Click here to view article). The airport expects to be able to process up to 85 million passengers a year by then. Changi Terminal 5 is expected to be ready by mid-2020s, doubling Changi Airport’s current capacity and going a long way in ensuring Singapore’s competitiveness as an air hub (Click here to view article). PM Lee also noted that the Airport and its related services provide some 163,000 jobs and account for 6 per cent of Singapore’s GDP.
Changi Business Park a strong draw
Changi Business Park was launched in 1997 as part of the Government’s plans to decentralise economic activities. It had since attracted many companies seeking high quality business space outside the Central Business District (CBD).
